Martin Luther’s great anthem "Ein Feste Burg" (A Mighty Fortress) is a pillar of Christian hymnody. The musical setting and text are both attributed to him.

In keeping with the original first verse’s focus on Christ as the God who “overcometh all,” “saveth from the fall” and “all things did create,” the added second and third verses also focus on God the Son, teaching of His roles as the Good Shepherd and as humanity's Savior from physical and spiritual death.
